Golden Thryallis, Galphimia gracilis is considered a small shrub growing from 4 to 6 feet tall. When planting, space about 4 to 6 feet apart in full sun to part shade and it grows best in the USDA hardiness zones 9a to 11. You will see the evergreen foliage and the lovely yellow blooms doing its thing from the middle of summer to the middle of fall. Soil requirements are normal watering needs but not too much and in mild acid to mild alkaline ph.

A gardener from Florida claims she planted in good soil and watered regularly while fairly young. Mulched with 3 inches of pine bark mulch. The story here is that it froze heavily one year and it lost all its leaves but came back with new leaves and new sprouts near the base and is doing fine now.

And a gardener from South Carolina in zone 7 claims also the plant with a bunch of straw as mulch survived and 8 degree cold and came back the following spring. A place where this is not suppose to happen.

From Austin Texas and Bartow Florida, gardeners say this a brittle plant. Plant away from active areas of people because bumping into will break branches.
